Online counseling, or Telehealth, allows you to get the help and support you want from the comfort, privacy and protection of your own home. Telehealth is not just convenient, it is effective. The American Psychological Association (APA) has recognized online counseling as an approved modality of service. It has been shown to be just as effective as traditional therapy, while allowing for the comfort and familiarity of your own home.

RMT conducts telehealth sessions over video using Google Meet, a HIPAA-compliant platform, which is secure and easy-to-use. You will be sent a meeting invitation with a link to our session. You’ll simply click on this at our appointment time to log-in. If you prefer to connect from your phone, you can do so by downloading the Google Meet app.  RMT will discuss with you any additional guidelines that are needed before beginning services. Please review the below "tips" prior to our first session to ensure that you have the best possible experience.

1. Get Ready

Schedule 5-10 minutes before your first session to review any instructions you've received from RMT for how to access the video platform. Test it out and make sure it works before the sessions starts.

2. Minimize Distractions

Aim for a quiet environment, free from distractions. However, if that is not possible due to children, pets, etc., let RMT know and we will work with you to accommodate the time and space accordingly.

3. Prepare Your Tech

Double check your internet connection. Make sure your device is charged and/or your charger is near. Headphones are encouraged for the best sound quality, but not required.

4. Optimize Your Connection

Set up your computer on a flat surface. This will eliminate shakiness on the video and ensures we can see each other clearly. Make sure your face is fully in the frame. A computer is best, but a phone or tablet can work, too!

5. Tech Happens

Tech issues are normal as you adjust to online sessions for the first time. Keep in contact with RMT via phone or email to sort things out if you have trouble connecting. Backup platforms are available if needed.

6. Get Comfortable

Snuggle up with your favorite blanket, a warm cup of tea or coffee, tissues if needed, and anything else that is typically included during your session (e.g. art supplies).

7. Treat It Like An "In-Person" Session

Try to look at my screen rather than at the camera or your own face. Treat it just like an office session! You may be surprised to realize video sessions can feel just as personal as in-person ones!

8. Press Into The Unexpected

Since you're at home (or another non-RMT office location), distractions and unexpected interruptions may happen! Don't worry or think that will lose our effectiveness. RMT knows how to use all those "live" moments towards your goals and deep inner healing.
